This guide provides a practical framework for the application of Chaos Magick, designed for the practitioner who has moved beyond initial theory and seeks to establish a results-based practice. The following sections detail foundational exercises and core operational techniques. The Chaote’s path is fundamentally experiential; progress is achieved through diligent practice, rigorous documentation, and the refinement of methods based on empirical outcomes.
Foundational Skills
Before you can effectively change external reality, you must gain control over your internal reality. The following practices are the essential groundwork for any successful Chaote. They build the focus, awareness, and energy sensitivity required for all magickal operations.
Meditation (Mind Control)
Your mind is the primary interface for magick. Consistent meditation isn’t just about relaxation; it’s about building the mental muscle necessary to hold focus and direct intent.
- Stillness & Breath Control: Start simply. Sit comfortably for 10-15 minutes daily, focusing solely on the sensation of your breath. Your mind will wander—that’s normal. Your task isn’t to fight the thoughts but to gently and persistently return your focus to your breath, over and over again. This is the fundamental exercise of will.
- Thought Control: As you progress, practice stopping your internal monologue for short periods. Start with 5 seconds, then 10, then 30. This is a direct exercise in will and is crucial for achieving gnosis.
- Trataka: To build laser-like concentration, practice Trataka. Start with the external form by gazing at a single point, like a candle flame, without blinking for as long as you can. This trains your concentration. Then, move to the internal form by closing your eyes and perfectly recreating that image in your mind’s eye. This builds visualization skills.
Ki Energy Work
Magick involves the conscious direction of energy. First, you must learn to feel it.
- The Psi-Ball: This is the classic starting point. Hold your palms facing each other, a few inches apart. Visualize ki energy (as light, heat, or color) flowing from your body, down your arms, and swirling into a dense, tangible ball between your hands. Practice feeling its presence, volume, and density.
- Body Scanning: This practice is the foundation for developing a profound mind-body connection. The exercise involves directing your area of perception methodically over your entire body, learning to isolate and feel each part distinctly. Begin by focusing on external sensations like the skin on your limbs, then move your awareness inward to your internal organs—the beating of your heart, the rhythm of your lungs, the processes of your enteric system—and even deeper to the subtle signals from nerves and the activation of motor units.
- Aura Scanning: Aura scanning is the direct progression from mastering the body scan. Once you can consciously direct your perception to any part of your physical body, you begin to extend that sensitivity to perceive the flow of ki energy within and around those parts. This self-scanning practice allows you to identify energy blockages or imbalances in your own biofield. After you have achieved proficiency in scanning your own aura, you can begin experimenting with scanning the auras of other people.
Daily Practice
Consistency is more important than intensity. A solid daily routine builds magickal fitness and creates a clear, dedicated space for your operations.
Daily Banishing
A daily banishing ritual for psychic hygiene. While Chaotes are encouraged to experiment, starting with a proven banishing ritual like the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP) is highly effective. Perform it once or twice daily. Its purpose isn’t just to ward off unwanted influences; it clears your mental “RAM”, defines your ritual space, and serves as a declaration of your authority over your personal universe. If you don’t like LBRP, you can create your own method.
Magickal Record
Your most important tool is a journal. Document every ritual, meditation session, and magickal experiment. Record the date, time, your emotional state, the techniques used, and the results—especially the failures. This turns your practice into a scientific exploration, as emphasized in foundational texts like Liber MMM.
Basic Magickal Operations
With a foundation in place, you can begin to actively apply magickal techniques to create change.
Gnosis
To achieve the gnostic state is to enter the peak state of mind where the psychic censor is bypassed, allowing you to implant intentions directly into your subconscious mind. Your primary task as a practitioner is to experiment with various methods to discover which ones work most effectively for you.
| Gnosis Type | Primary Method | Practical Exercise |
|---|---|---|
| Inhibitory | Quieting the mind | Practice prolonged candle gazing (Trataka) until your internal dialogue ceases and your mind becomes empty. |
| Excitatory | Overwhelming the senses | Engage in ecstatic dancing to intense, rhythmic music until physical exhaustion leads to a state of ego loss. |
| Indifferent Vacuity | Non-judgmental observation | Sit and watch your thoughts pass by without any emotional attachment or analysis, like observing clouds drifting across the sky. |
Sigil Magick
Creating sigils is the quintessential Chaos Magick technique for achieving specific goals. The process is straightforward and bypasses the conscious mind to deliver an instruction directly to the unconscious mind.
- Define Intent: Start with an internal goal. Let’s use “I HAVE CONTROL OVER MY MIND“.
- Create the Glyph: Remove all repeating letters and vowels from the statement. Then, take the remaining letters and combine them into a single, abstract graphical symbol.
- Charge in Gnosis: At the absolute peak of your chosen gnosis method, focus all your attention on the sigil’s shape. Pour your will and energy into it until you feel a “snap” or release.
- Forget: This is the most critical step. Immediately after charging, banish the sigil from your mind. You must overcome the lust of result as obsessive desire will neutralize the operation.
Servitor Magick
Creating servitors is the practice of engineering an autonomous thought-form to carry out a specific, ongoing task on your behalf. This technique allows you to delegate a magickal operation so it can work continuously in the background.
- Define Purpose: A servitor is an autonomous thought-form you design for a specific, ongoing task. Be precise. Not “help me”, but “alert me to financial opportunities by causing a tingling sensation in my right hand”.
- Design: Give it a unique name, a visual form (its sigil or image), a lifespan (e.g. “until my project is complete”), and a method for feeding it (e.g., your attention, a specific emotion).
- Define a Kill Switch: Before activation, decide how you will terminate it when its task is done (e.g., ritually burning its sigil). This is a matter of psychic hygiene.
- Launch: Activate your servitor in a state of gnosis, visualizing it coming to life.
- Maintain and Terminate: “Feed” your servitor as planned to keep it active. Once its purpose is fulfilled, perform the termination ritual you designed.
Divination
Divination practice is a set of techniques used to gain insight into a situation by bypassing the conscious mind and accessing information from the unconscious mind or the wider universe. It is less about predicting a fixed future and more about exploring probabilities and hidden influences.
- Select a divinatory system that resonates with you, such as Tarot or runes.
- Formulate a clear, open-ended question (e.g., “What is the primary obstacle to my goal?”).
- Enter a light trance to quiet your conscious mind and allow intuition to surface.
- Perform the reading and immediately record your intuitive interpretations in your magickal record.
- Log the real-world outcomes later to calibrate your divinatory skills.
Invocation
Invocation practice is the art of calling a specific energy, archetype, or consciousness into yourself to temporarily embody its qualities. This is a technique for personal transformation and for accessing states of being that are normally outside your daily experience.
- Choose an archetype that embodies the quality you wish to manifest.
- Create a ritual environment that reflects the archetype using symbols, colors, and music.
- Enter a state of gnosis while focusing on the archetype’s imagery and essence.
- Allow its consciousness to merge with yours, fully embodying its perspective and power for the duration of the rite.
- When finished, perform a banishing to return to your normal state of consciousness.
Evocation
Evocation practice is the art of calling forth a being or energy so that it manifests externally to you. Unlike invocation, where the force is drawn into the self, evocation maintains a distinct separation between the magician and the summoned entity. This is considered an advanced technique that requires discipline and psychic fortitude.
- Prepare by identifying the specific entity, your exact purpose for the summoning, and its symbol.
- Establish a protected magickal circle to act as a barrier between you and the entity.
- Summon the entity into a designated area outside your circle (oftentimes into a ritual triangle) using gnosis and its symbol as a focal point.
- Communicate your purpose clearly while maintaining authority over the operation.
- Formally license the entity to depart, and then perform a thorough banishing of the entire area.
Illumination
Illumination practice is the application of magickal techniques for the specific purpose of self-knowledge, personal growth, and spiritual evolution. It is the process of turning your will inward to explore, understand, and integrate the hidden parts of your own psyche.
- Create a sacred, introspective space using a banishing ritual.
- Define the aspect of your “Shadow Self” you wish to confront (e.g., your fear, anger, guilt, shame, etc.).
- Enter a state of gnosis and call this aspect forth into your conscious awareness.
- Engage with the aspect in a mental dialogue to understand its purpose and needs.
- Focus on the integration of its energy, not its elimination, to achieve greater wholeness.
Personal Insights
The techniques described here are not just abstract theories; they are tools for practical self-transformation. Before I became an international-level strength coach, my life was very different. Among friends, I was known as the “human beer can”—a nod to the character Julian from Trailer Park Boys, as I was rarely seen without a beer in my hand. My life was more aligned with the chaos of the Jackass series than with serious goals.
Through sheer willpower, intense mindset work, and the very Chaos Magick techniques detailed here, I transformed that reality. I went from a “party boy” to an elite-level strength coach. At the time of writing this article, these methods have helped me to “create” 11 world champions in strength sports, who have broken numerous records. This journey has also led me to work with legends like Josh Bryant—with whom I co-authored the book Powers of the Mind—and several others. Now, this isn’t about showing off; it’s a proof that with the right mindset and developed magickal skillset, anything is possible. The only real limits are the ones you place on yourself.
